Drinking Responsibly

I am 24, so its probably not surprising that I like to have a few beers every now and then. I hit Hanover Liquors in the North End about once a month to stock up on goodies, and I was thrilled this summer when I discovered Veev.

Veev is an Acai berry infused vodka for which 1$ is donated to Sustainable Acai Project for every bottle purchased. Acai is mostly grown in Brazil and the project is intended to both help provide sustainable business oportunities for farmers while also helping prevent deforestation in the Amazon.

Drinking to save the rain forest? Count me in!

My fav way to drink Veev is: 1 part Veev, 3 parts tonic, and a splash of lime!

Supporting My Affiliations

Prior to becoming a paralegal, I worked for a number of green companies, non profits, and governmental organizations. So today I'd like to give them all a little shout out.

Environmental Protection Agency - Toxics and Pesticides Unit. Yep, the Region 1 office of the EPA is right in Post Office Square!

Sustainable Endowments Institute - publishes the annual College Sustainability Report Card. The office is located in Harvard Square.

Nexus Green Building Resource Center - The title says it all. I served as a website and communications intern at their office in Downtown Crossing.

GreenAnswers.com - This was a virtual internship. I helped write content for the site. Check out their ad at the bottom of my blog.

Merida Home - Sustainable fiber area rug company located in the Seaport District. I continue to write blog posts for them, so check them out!

In an effort to bring great sustainable style bites to my readers, I am going to try to do a post every weekday. Soon, checking BGB everyday will feel as vital as your morning flinstone vitamin. Get pumped for an overdose of fun content as BGB approaches its one year anniversary!

NY Fashion Week Gets Green

While there were a couple of shows at NY Fashion week that featured natural materials such as organic cotton, hemp, and wool, my favorite was John Patrick of Organic.

A Site to See

Here is a great green living blog to check out. (And like mine, this blog is Boston-based)

Smile Like You Mean It

I recently made the switch to all natural toothpaste by Tom's of Maine and I love it. It has no flouride, dyes, or artificial ingredients. Plus, much of the packaging is made from post consumer recycled materials.
I was a little skeptical upon purchasing the toothpaste that it wouldn't be as effective as my usual heavy-duty whitening toothpaste, but my teeth feel clean and they are just as white as they were a few weeks ago with my old toothpaste!

The Case for NorthFace

The NorthFace Venture Jacket is partially made with renewable castor oil rather than fossil fuel petroleum-based oil. While the coat still contains some petroleum materials, the production of this jacket will prevent approximately 50,000 lbs of petroleum from being used!

5 Foods I Always Buy Organic

1. Milk - No bovine growth hormones for me, thanks.

2. Salad Mix - I prefer the Oliva's Organics 50/50 blend because spinach is a great source of iron.
3. Eggs - and cage free!

4. Tea - I drink a lot, so it is definitely worth getting organic.

5. Peanut Butter - I LOVE the 365 wholefoods brand crunchy peanut butter...addicting.

Snowpacalypse Addiction

Boston has had a major snow storm at least once a week for about a month and a half now. The cold weather and being cooped up inside has fueled my addiction to WholeFoods brand 365 Organic Green Tea. It is delish, organic, and keeps you warm! My roommate and I also love the series of organic teas by Stash.
